Chapter 1 : The Iceberg Omega Professor Lucas Smith
Autumn is approaching, and the maple leaves at Avalon University are already showing signs of withering. A gust of wind blows, and a maple leaf gently floats down. Lucas Smith reaches out to catch it, examines it carefully for a moment, then places it in his book and hurries towards the classroom. Today is his first lecture for the freshmen, and he must not be late.
As he is about to step into the classroom, he hears the noisy chatter inside, with everyone discussing the course and the professor.
"Did you hear? Our philosophy professor is that beautiful and delicate Omega, Lucas!"
"Lucas? An Omega? Oh my god!"
"Lucas, the Iceberg Professor of the Philosophy Department, also known as the Jade-faced Killer. Handsome, with ink-black hair, broad shoulders, and a narrow waist—he''s a dream come true. Despite his good looks, he''s famous for being strict. Every year, countless students have to retake his exams!"
"What? No way! I chose philosophy just to see the legendary handsome face. I didn''t plan on gambling with my grades."
"Hey, a diamond bachelor like the professor must have a stunning girlfriend, right?"
"You don''t know, do you? The professor has a super impressive Alpha boyfriend! I specifically asked the upperclassmen. The professor doesn''t have a Beta or Omega girlfriend..."
"Does that mean I have a chance?"
"Nonsense! The professor''s Alpha boyfriend is a domineering CEO type, gentle and charming! It''s none other than Harold Wilson, the young master of the Wilson Family from Elaris!"
With this revelation, the students in the classroom become even more excited. The Iceberg Omega Professor has an Alpha boyfriend! And not just any boyfriend, but a diamond bachelor as well!
"Students are all the same. Each class is more gossipy than the last."
Lucas pauses at the classroom door, collecting his emotions. His relationship with Harold is well-known at Avalon University, largely thanks to Harold''s high-profile displays of affection. Harold frequently visits the school, often bringing gifts to Lucas''s colleagues in his name, claiming that Lucas is not good with words and asking for their understanding.
Lucas finds it unnecessary, believing that while social interactions are inevitable, true friendships should be as light as water. Apart from Harold, no one else has ever captured his heart or made him swoon.
He gathers his thoughts, straightens his clothes and books, and strides into the classroom. The moment he steps in, all eyes turn to him like spotlights.
"Wow... so handsome."
The person entering the classroom is impeccably dressed in a well-tailored suit that perfectly accentuates his figure. His ink-black hair and fair face are complemented by a pair of rimless glasses, giving him a cold and unreadable expression. He looks nothing like a delicate and sweet Omega, but rather like a cold and noble Alpha.
"Hello everyone, I am your philosophy teacher, Lucas." Lucas walks to the podium, places his book down, and writes his name and phone number on the blackboard. "You can call me if you have any questions, but generally, it''s better not to have any."
"Professor, can we have an in-depth discussion with you?" someone teases.
"Only academic discussions."
His actions are smooth and fluid, and as he adjusts his glasses, his aura of restraint intensifies, causing some of the girls in the class to become restless and start whispering.
"Ahhh, the professor is so handsome!!!" Some of the Betas can''t help but exclaim quietly.
"Oh my god, so handsome."
Lucas is used to this. He taps the desk, "During class, please remain quiet."
As soon as he finishes speaking, the class falls silent, all eyes focused on Lucas.
"For today''s first lecture, let''s start by getting to know some of the great philosophers."
Using the multimedia setup prepared by his assistant, Lucas displays a series of incomplete photos to test the students'' knowledge of philosophical pioneers. "If you recognize them, you can answer."
As the photos are shown, someone immediately responds, "Plato!"
The voice is clear and resonant.
Plato is Lucas''s favorite philosopher. To answer so quickly, even Lucas couldn''t help but take a second look. The person looked delicate yet had strikingly handsome features, a truly captivating appearance. This was the kind of look Lucas appreciated, but only appreciated. However, the person didn''t seem to be a student.
Dressed in an expensive light green tracksuit, legs crossed, sitting in the back row with a mysterious smile, he didn''t seem to be there earlier. Perhaps he was just auditing the class, Lucas decided not to delve into it and focused on the lecture. "Well then, could you please introduce Plato to us?"
The person leisurely replied, "Plato, a great philosopher of ancient Greece, and one of the greatest philosophers and thinkers in all of Western culture."
"That''s common knowledge. Do you have any other insights?"
"He proposed concepts such as Platonic thought, Platonism, and Platonic love. Among them, Platonic love, also known as spiritual love, is named after the Western philosopher Plato. It is a type of spiritual love between people, seeking mental connection and rejecting physical desire, a pure love of the mind."
Listening to his words, Lucas squinted his eyes and stared at the person.
Plato believed: "When the soul is free from the body and yearns for truth, that is the best state. When the soul is tainted by the body''s sins, the desire for truth cannot be fulfilled. When humans have no strong need for physical desires, the mind is at peace. Physical desire is a manifestation of the beastly nature in humans, which is inherent in all living beings. Humans are considered higher animals because their human nature is stronger than their beastly nature. Spiritual communication is beautiful and moral."
Platonic love is what Lucas has always yearned for and is his most admired philosophical theory. This person had just articulated his most revered philosopher and theory, earning even more of Lucas''s admiration.
"Not bad, it seems you have a good understanding of philosophy."
The person nodded and smiled slightly, saying no more.
The students around started whispering, "Isn''t that Cody from the Wilson Family, the top Alpha family? They''ve been in business for generations, each surpassing the last."
"It should be."
Lucas continued, "But actually, according to the Symposium, Platonic love mainly refers to love between the same sex, which was related to the customs of ancient Greece. Greek scholars believed that love between the same sex was the true heavenly love, while heterosexual marriage was merely for social construction."
"Is that what you believe, Professor?"
"Not entirely, but I do agree with Plato''s belief that ''true'' love is a lasting emotion, and only time is the true test of love. Only extraordinary love can withstand the test of time."
"Professor, can you still firmly choose Platonic love when facing the person you love?"
For some reason, Lucas''s gaze always unconsciously fell on that person. He looked away, "Yes, I firmly believe it is right."
"Will your boyfriend understand?"
At this point, he was very confident.
He considered himself good-looking and never lacked the pursuit of Alphas, Betas, and Omegas. But the reason Harold could touch his heart was that he was willing to try Platonic love with him and even liked this theory as much as he did. They always enjoyed discussing Plato whenever they met.
Many people thought he was just a quirky Omega who didn''t like socializing, let alone being marked.
So, being with Harold, who shared his interests, Lucas found it very interesting.
"Of course, he understands."
"Pfft." As soon as Lucas finished speaking, he looked for the source of the sound, and it was that same student again.
Frowning, he asked, "Do you have something to say?" To be honest, he hated such contempt and mockery; it was irritating.
"No, Professor."
Lucas wanted to say more, but the bell rang right on time.
Everyone felt the class ended too soon and started shouting at Lucas, "Professor, your class is so interesting!"
"Yeah, yeah, it''s the first time I felt class time went by so fast!"
Lucas rarely smiled, "Then I''ll see you in the next class."
He packed up his textbooks and quickly walked out of the classroom.
Before leaving, he glanced at the back row, and the boy was gone again, like a ghost.
Oh well, what does it have to do with him?
